Food Drive@Peaceful Village (MSIP)

Good Morning Friends and Colleagues:

I hope this email finds you warm and well.

With the temperatures dropping I was reminded of the upcoming Winter Break. As you know the schools and the breakfast programs will be closed for 2 weeks over the holidays.

Once again, The Peaceful Village will run a food drive to ensure that many of our underserved families will have enough to eat over the holidays. The Peaceful Village facilitates academic, social, and arts programming for over 600 former refugee families residing in Winnipeg at six sites across the city.

Last year we were able to pack over 500 bags. This year our challenge is to ensure that we can prepare 500 packages.

If you are able to make a donation to the food drive we would be so appreciative.

Food or cash donations can be dropped off at: 201 – 357 Bannatyne Ave. (The Peaceful Village Community Site / MSIP office) by 4 PM on December 18, 2018. Tax receipts will be provided for donations of $10 or more. Tax receipts are printed in January each year.

If you would prefer to drop off a food donation, here are some ‘hot items’ we would love to receive:

  • Rice! Rice! Rice!
  • Beans (canned or bagged lentils)
  • Pasta
  • Produce (potatoes, onions, oranges, apples)
  • Canned goods (tuna, vegi, soup, etc)
  • Reusable shopping bags
  • Cereal, oatmeal etc

We will be organizing and packaging the donated items on Wednesday December 19, 2018 at 4:30 pm at The Peaceful Villages’ Community Site / MSIP Inc. office. If you would like to volunteer for this, please call 204- 949-1858 for Leena Wahabi – tpvoffice@msip.ca or Re Moon – reception@msip.ca.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration of this request. If you know of others in your family, friends, or social media networks who would be interested in participating, please forward this email along.

Sincerely,

Daniel Swaka, Executive Director
